The Workshop
The workshop was purchased by the Society of Friends (Quakers) to help provide meaningful employment to the prisoners1 and constructed by volunteers in the camp 2. Many prisoners already had practical skills, and others could be trained, but there was a need for an environment large enough to enable work which could not be carried out in the huts to take place. The Society of Friends not only provided and equipped the workshop, they also arranged for the sale of the objects created by the inmates in neutral countries on an ongoing basis.
